Welcome!Welcome to your personalised lesson on mastering the order of operations! Since you've already studied essential mathematical symbols and operations, we'll build on that foundation to help you confidently solve complex expressions using BIDMAS.
What is BIDMAS?BIDMAS (or BODMAS) stands for Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. It is the order in which mathematical operations must be carried out to ensure accurate results.
Why is BIDMAS important?BIDMAS ensures consistency in solving mathematical expressions. Without it, different people might arrive at different answers for the same problem!
Quick check: What does the 'B' in BIDMAS represent?

How does BIDMAS work? When solving an expression, always follow the BIDMAS order:Brackets: Solve anything inside brackets first.Indices: Handle powers or roots.Division and Multiplication: Work from left to right.Addition and Subtraction: Finally, solve any addition or subtraction from left to right.
Match the items on the left with their correct pairs on the right

Common mistakes with BIDMASA common error is ignoring the order of division and multiplication, or addition and subtraction. Remember, these pairs are solved from left to right regardless of their position.
