Welcome!Today we'll be learning about Ratio and Proportion. This is an important topic that helps us compare quantities and solve problems in real-world situations. Let's begin!
What is Ratio?A ratio compares two or more quantities. It shows how much of one quantity there is compared to another. For example, if you have 3 apples and 2 oranges, the ratio of apples to oranges is 3:2.

What is Proportion?A proportion is an equation that shows two ratios are equal. It is used when solving problems where one quantity changes in relation to another. For example, if 2 apples cost £4, then 4 apples will cost £8 because the ratio stays the same (2:4 = 4:8).
A proportion shows that two {{blank0}} are equal. For example, 3:5 is proportional to {{blank1}}.

Solving Problems with RatiosTo solve problems involving ratios, divide the total quantity into parts based on the ratio. For example, if £60 is divided in the ratio 2:3, add the parts (2+3=5). Then divide £60 by 5 to get £12 per part. Multiply £12 by 2 for the first share (£24) and by 3 for the second share (£36).

Solving Problems with ProportionTo solve problems involving proportion, set up an equation. For example, if 3 apples cost £6, find the cost of 5 apples: 3 apples : £6 = 5 apples : £x. Cross-multiply: 3x = 6 × 5, so x = £10.
