What are Key Themes?Key themes are the central ideas or messages that run throughout a text. They help us understand the writer's purpose and the deeper meanings behind characters, events, and settings.Recognising themes helps us connect the text to its context and to our own experiences.
Identifying ThemesWriters often use language, form, and structure to explore themes. Look for repeated ideas, symbols, and contrasts to uncover the themes in a text.The context in which the text was written also plays a role in shaping its themes. Consider the historical, social, or cultural influences that may have inspired the writer.
