Welcome!Today we'll learn about fractions. Fractions are part of numbers and are used to represent parts of a whole.
What are Fractions?A fraction is a way to express a part of a whole number. It has two parts: the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number). The numerator shows how many parts you have, and the denominator shows how many parts make up the whole.
Which of the following is a fraction?

Types of FractionsThere are three types of fractions: proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers.A proper fraction has a numerator smaller than the denominator (e.g., 3/4). An improper fraction has a numerator larger than the denominator (e.g., 7/4). A mixed number combines a whole number with a fraction (e.g., 1 3/4).

How to Simplify FractionsTo simplify a fraction, divide the numerator and denominator by their highest common factor (HCF). For example, 12/16 can be simplified to 3/4 by dividing both by 4.
To simplify 18/24, divide the numerator and denominator by their {{blank0}} common factor, which is {{blank1}}.

Adding and Subtracting FractionsTo add or subtract fractions, make sure they have the same denominator. If not, find the least common denominator (LCD) and convert the fractions. Then, add or subtract the numerators while keeping the denominator the same.

Multiplying and Dividing FractionsTo multiply fractions, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. To divide fractions, flip the second fraction (find its reciprocal) and multiply. For example, multiplying 2/3 by 4/5 gives 8/15, while dividing 2/3 by 4/5 gives 10/12, which simplifies to 5/6.
