Verb
A word that describes an action, state, or occurrence (e.g., run, think, exist).
Action verb
A verb that expresses a physical or mental action (e.g., jump, write, decide).
Stative verb
A verb that describes a state or condition rather than an action (e.g., believe, know, seem).
Modal verb
A type of auxiliary verb used to express possibility, necessity, or ability (e.g., can, must, should).
Auxiliary verb
A helping verb used with a main verb to form tense, mood, or voice (e.g., be, have, do).
Transitive verb
A verb that requires a direct object to complete its meaning (e.g., 'She reads books').
Intransitive verb
A verb that does not require a direct object (e.g., 'He sleeps').
Infinitive form
The base form of a verb, often preceded by 'to' (e.g., to run, to eat).
Past tense verb
A verb form that indicates an action or state occurred in the past (e.g., walked, thought).
Present participle
A verb form ending in -ing used in continuous tenses or as an adjective (e.g., running, thinking).
