Two-way table
A table used to organise data into two categories, showing the frequency of each combination of categories.
Purpose of a two-way table
To summarise and display data for two variables, making it easier to interpret relationships and totals.
Row total
The sum of all frequencies in a row of a two-way table.
Column total
The sum of all frequencies in a column of a two-way table.
Grand total
The total of all frequencies in a two-way table, found by adding all row or column totals.
How to complete a two-way table
Use the given data to fill in missing values by subtracting from row, column, or grand totals.
Interpreting a two-way table
Use the data in the table to answer questions about the frequencies of specific combinations or totals.
