Sharing in a Ratio Flashcards

A way of comparing two or more quantities, showing the relative sizes of the parts.

Divide all parts of the ratio by their highest common factor (HCF).

Divide a quantity into parts according to the given ratio.

Add all the numbers in the ratio to find the total number of parts.

Divide the total quantity by the total number of parts in the ratio.

Multiply the value of one part by each number in the ratio to find the amounts for each part.

Express the ratio with the smallest whole numbers by dividing through by the HCF.

Express each part of the ratio as a fraction of the total parts.

Multiply all parts of the ratio by the same number to scale it up proportionally.

Add the distributed amounts and ensure they equal the original total quantity.
