Simple sentence
A sentence with one independent clause containing a subject and a verb. Example: 'The cat slept.'
Compound sentence
A sentence with two or more independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction (e.g., and, but, or). Example: 'The cat slept, and the dog barked.'
Complex sentence
A sentence with one independent clause and at least one dependent clause. Example: 'Although it was raining, we went outside.'
Coordinating conjunctions
Words used to join independent clauses in compound sentences (e.g., for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so).
Subordinating conjunctions
Words used to introduce dependent clauses in complex sentences (e.g., because, although, since, unless).
Minor sentence
A sentence that is grammatically incomplete but conveys meaning. Example: 'Hello!' or 'No way!.'
Declarative sentence
A sentence that makes a statement or expresses an opinion. Example: 'I enjoy reading.'
Interrogative sentence
A sentence that asks a question. Example: 'What time is it?.'
Imperative sentence
A sentence that gives a command or instruction. Example: 'Close the door.'
Exclamatory sentence
A sentence that expresses strong emotion or surprise, often ending with an exclamation mark. Example: 'What a beautiful day!'
