Audience
The intended reader or listener for a piece of writing or speech.
Purpose
The reason for writing, such as to describe, narrate, argue, persuade, inform, or explain.
Tone
The overall attitude conveyed through language choices, such as formal, informal, serious, or humorous.
Register
The level of formality appropriate to the audience and purpose of the text.
Cohesion
How ideas are linked within and across paragraphs, including discourse markers and structural linking.
Paragraphing
The organisation of ideas into logical units of meaning, often used to structure arguments or narratives.
Discourse markers
Words or phrases used to guide the reader through a text, such as 'however', 'therefore', or 'on the other hand'.
Sentence forms
The use of simple, compound, and complex sentences to vary the structure and impact of writing.
Technical accuracy
Correct and effective use of spelling, punctuation, and grammar, including full stops, commas, apostrophes, and other marks.
Organisation
The arrangement of ideas and information in a logical and coherent way, including openings, endings, and sequencing.
