Percentage Change Formula
Percentage Change = (Change ÷ Original Value) × 100
Increase by a Percentage
Multiply the original value by (1 + percentage increase as a decimal).
Decrease by a Percentage
Multiply the original value by (1 - percentage decrease as a decimal).
Finding the Percentage Increase
Use the formula: ((New Value - Original Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100.
Finding the Percentage Decrease
Use the formula: ((Original Value - New Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100.
Reverse Percentage Increase
Divide the final value by (1 + percentage increase as a decimal) to find the original value.
Reverse Percentage Decrease
Divide the final value by (1 - percentage decrease as a decimal) to find the original value.
Compound Percentage Increase
Multiply the original value by (1 + percentage increase as a decimal) raised to the power of the number of periods.
Compound Percentage Decrease
Multiply the original value by (1 - percentage decrease as a decimal) raised to the power of the number of periods.
Real-Life Example of Percentage Change
If a £50 item is increased by 20%, the new price is £50 × 1.2 = £60.
