Integer
A whole number that can be positive, negative, or zero.
Ascending order
Arranging numbers from smallest to largest.
Descending order
Arranging numbers from largest to smallest.
Negative integers
Integers less than zero, e.g., -1, -2, -3.
Positive integers
Integers greater than zero, e.g., 1, 2, 3.
Zero in ordering
Zero is neither positive nor negative and is placed between negative and positive integers.
Comparing integers
When comparing two integers, the one further to the right on a number line is greater.
Ordering tip for negatives
The more negative a number is, the smaller it is (e.g., -5 is smaller than -2).
Number line
A visual representation of integers in order, with negative numbers to the left of zero and positive numbers to the right.
Mixed integers ordering
When ordering a mix of positive and negative integers, negatives come first, then zero, then positives.
