Audience
The intended reader or listener for the writing. Non-fiction writing must be tailored to suit the audience.
Register
The level of formality appropriate to the audience and purpose of the writing.
Tone
The overall attitude conveyed through language choices, such as serious, humorous, or persuasive.
Purpose
The reason for writing, such as to argue, persuade, inform, explain, or describe.
Cohesion
How ideas are linked within and across paragraphs, including discourse markers and structural linking.
Paragraphing
Logical units of meaning that organise ideas effectively in non-fiction writing.
Sentence forms
Using simple, compound, and complex sentences deliberately for clarity, purpose, and effect.
Technical accuracy
Correct use of spelling, punctuation, and grammar, including full stops, commas, apostrophes, colons, semi-colons, and more.
