Linear graph
A graph that represents a straight line.
Coordinates
A pair of numbers (x, y) that show a position on a graph.
Table of values
A table used to calculate coordinates by substituting x-values into an equation.
Gradient
The steepness of a line, calculated as 'change in y ÷ change in x'.
Y-intercept
The point where a line crosses the y-axis (when x = 0).
Equation of a straight line
y = mx + c, where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept.
Plotting a linear graph
Use a table of values to calculate coordinates, then plot the points and join them with a straight line.
Positive gradient
A line that slopes upwards from left to right.
Negative gradient
A line that slopes downwards from left to right.
Horizontal line equation
y = c, where c is a constant (gradient = 0).
