Alliteration
The repetition of the same consonant sound at the beginning of words close together, e.g., 'dark, daunting door'.
Simile
A comparison using 'like' or 'as', e.g., 'as brave as a lion'.
Metaphor
A direct comparison stating one thing is another, e.g., 'time is a thief'.
Personification
Giving human qualities to non-human objects or ideas, e.g., 'the wind whispered through the trees'.
Hyperbole
Exaggeration for emphasis or effect, e.g., 'I've told you a million times'.
Imagery
Descriptive language that creates vivid pictures in the reader's mind, often appealing to the senses.
Rhetorical Question
A question asked for effect, not requiring an answer, e.g., 'Who wouldn't want to succeed?'.
Onomatopoeia
Words that imitate sounds, e.g., 'buzz', 'crash', 'whisper'.
Repetition
The deliberate use of the same word or phrase multiple times for emphasis, e.g., 'Never, never, never give up.'
Emotive Language
Words or phrases designed to evoke an emotional response, e.g., 'heartbreaking tragedy' or 'inspiring heroism'.
