Inequality symbols
< means 'less than', > means 'greater than', ≤ means 'less than or equal to', and ≥ means 'greater than or equal to'.
Solid line in graphing inequalities
A solid line is used when the inequality includes '≤' or '≥', meaning the boundary is included.
Dashed line in graphing inequalities
A dashed line is used when the inequality includes '<' or '>', meaning the boundary is not included.
Shading for y > mx + c
Shade the region above the line y = mx + c, as y is greater than the line.
Shading for y < mx + c
Shade the region below the line y = mx + c, as y is less than the line.
Graphing x > a
Draw a vertical dashed line at x = a and shade the region to the right of the line.
Graphing x ≤ a
Draw a vertical solid line at x = a and shade the region to the left of the line.
Graphing y ≥ b
Draw a horizontal solid line at y = b and shade the region above the line.
Testing a point in graphing inequalities
Substitute the coordinates of a point into the inequality to check if it satisfies the inequality.
Region satisfying multiple inequalities
The solution is the overlapping shaded region that satisfies all the inequalities.
