Conversion graph
A graph used to convert between two different units, such as miles and kilometres.
Axes on a conversion graph
The horizontal axis (x-axis) and vertical axis (y-axis) represent the two units being converted.
Straight line on a conversion graph
Indicates a proportional relationship between the two units.
Using a conversion graph
To convert a value, locate it on one axis, draw a line to the graph, and then read the corresponding value on the other axis.
Interpreting a point on a conversion graph
Each point represents an equivalent value in the two units being converted.
Gradient of a conversion graph
Represents the rate of conversion between the two units (e.g., how many kilometres equal one mile).
Example of a conversion graph
A graph converting miles to kilometres, where 1 mile equals approximately 1.6 kilometres.
Finding a missing value using a conversion graph
Use the graph to locate the known value on one axis and read the corresponding value on the other axis.
Extrapolating on a conversion graph
Extending the graph beyond the given data to estimate values outside the range.
Real-life uses of conversion graphs
Used for tasks like converting currencies, distances, weights, or temperatures.
