Primary data
Data collected directly by the person or organisation for a specific purpose.
Secondary data
Data that has been collected by someone else and is used for a different purpose.
Quantitative data
Data that is numerical and can be measured or counted.
Qualitative data
Data that is descriptive and non-numerical, such as opinions or categories.
Population
The entire group of people or items that data could be collected from.
Sample
A smaller group selected from the population to represent it.
Random sampling
A sampling method where every member of the population has an equal chance of being selected.
Stratified sampling
A sampling method where the population is divided into groups (strata) and a proportional sample is taken from each group.
Bias in data collection
When the data collected does not fairly represent the population, often due to poor sampling methods.
Questionnaire design
The process of creating questions to collect data, ensuring they are clear, unbiased, and relevant.
