Structure
The organisation of ideas and events across the whole text, including order, shifts, contrast, openings and endings, and paragraphing.
Beginnings
How the text starts, introducing characters, setting, or themes to engage the reader.
Endings
How the text concludes, often providing resolution, leaving questions, or creating impact.
Shifts in focus
Changes in attention or perspective within the text, such as moving from one character to another or from setting to action.
Sequencing
The order in which events or ideas are presented, including chronological or non-linear structures.
Contrast
The use of opposing ideas, settings, or tones to highlight differences and create interest.
Paragraphing
The division of text into logical units of meaning, often used to control pace or emphasise ideas.
Narrative viewpoint
The perspective from which the story is told, such as first-person, third-person, or omniscient.
Pace
The speed at which the text progresses, influenced by sentence length, paragraphing, and detail.
Repetition
The repeated use of words, phrases, or ideas to emphasise key points or create rhythm.
