Virtual memory

A section of secondary storage used as temporary RAM when the physical RAM is full.

2

Purpose of virtual memory

Allows the system to run more applications than the physical RAM can hold by temporarily storing data on secondary storage.

3

How virtual memory works

Data not currently being used is moved from RAM to secondary storage, freeing up space in RAM for active processes.

4

Disadvantage of virtual memory

Accessing data from secondary storage is slower than accessing data from RAM, which can reduce performance.
