Pixel
The smallest unit of a digital image, representing a single point of colour.
Metadata
Data about the image, such as dimensions, colour depth, and file format.
Colour depth
The number of bits used to represent the colour of a single pixel.
Resolution
The number of pixels in an image, typically expressed as width × height.
Image file size formula
File size = colour depth × image width × image height.
Effect of higher colour depth
Increases image quality and file size by allowing more colours to be represented.
Effect of higher resolution
Improves image quality but increases file size due to more pixels.
