Arithmetic sequence
A sequence where the difference between consecutive terms is constant.
Common difference
The fixed amount added or subtracted in an arithmetic sequence.
Geometric sequence
A sequence where each term is found by multiplying the previous term by a constant.
Common ratio
The fixed number multiplied in a geometric sequence.
nth term of a sequence
A formula that allows you to find any term in a sequence by substituting the term number (n).
Linear sequence
A sequence with a constant difference between terms, represented by a straight-line graph.
Quadratic sequence
A sequence where the second differences between terms are constant.
Fibonacci sequence
A sequence where each term is the sum of the two previous terms (e.g., 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8...).
Second difference
The difference between consecutive first differences in a sequence, used to identify quadratic sequences.
Finding the nth term of a linear sequence
Use the formula an + b, where a is the common difference and b is the first term minus a.
