Reflection
A transformation that flips a shape over a line, creating a mirror image.
Line of reflection
The line over which a shape is reflected, acting as the mirror.
Properties of reflection
The reflected shape is congruent to the original and has the same size and shape.
Coordinates after reflection in x-axis
If a point (x, y) is reflected in the x-axis, its new coordinates are (x, -y).
Coordinates after reflection in y-axis
If a point (x, y) is reflected in the y-axis, its new coordinates are (-x, y).
Reflection in the line y = x
If a point (x, y) is reflected in the line y = x, its new coordinates are (y, x).
Reflection in the line y = -x
If a point (x, y) is reflected in the line y = -x, its new coordinates are (-y, -x).
Invariant points in reflection
Points that lie on the line of reflection remain unchanged after the reflection.
How to describe a reflection
State that it is a reflection, specify the line of reflection (e.g., x-axis, y-axis, y = x).
Effect of reflection on orientation
A reflection reverses the orientation of a shape (e.g., clockwise becomes anticlockwise).
