Prime number
A number greater than 1 that has exactly two factors: 1 and itself.
Smallest prime number
The smallest prime number is 2.
Only even prime number
The only even prime number is 2.
Prime factors
The prime numbers that multiply together to make a given number.
Prime factorisation
Writing a number as a product of its prime factors.
Method to find prime factors
Use a factor tree or repeated division by prime numbers.
Example of a prime number
Examples of prime numbers include 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, etc.
Example of a non-prime number
Examples of non-prime numbers include 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, etc., as they have more than two factors.
Highest common factor (HCF) using primes
The HCF of two numbers is found by multiplying the common prime factors.
Lowest common multiple (LCM) using primes
The LCM of two numbers is found by multiplying the highest powers of all prime factors.
