Percentage Increase
The amount a value increases, expressed as a percentage of the original value.
Formula for Percentage Increase
Percentage Increase = (Increase ÷ Original Value) × 100.
Increase
The difference between the new value and the original value.
Steps to Calculate Percentage Increase
1. Find the increase (new value - original value). 2. Divide the increase by the original value. 3. Multiply by 100.
Example: Increase £50 by 20%
1. Find 20% of £50: (20 ÷ 100) × 50 = £10. 2. Add £10 to £50: £50 + £10 = £60.
Reverse Percentage Increase
Finding the original value before a percentage increase was applied.
Example: Reverse Percentage Increase
If £120 is the result of a 20% increase, divide £120 by 1.2 to find the original value: £120 ÷ 1.2 = £100.
Percentage Multiplier for Increase
1 + (percentage increase ÷ 100).
Using a Multiplier for Percentage Increase
Multiply the original value by the percentage multiplier to find the new value.
Example: Using a Multiplier
To increase £80 by 15%, use the multiplier 1.15: £80 × 1.15 = £92.
