Protocol
A set of rules that govern how data is transmitted across a network.
TCP/IP
A suite of protocols used to route and reliably deliver data across networks, including the Internet.
HTTP
The protocol used for transferring web pages on the World Wide Web.
HTTPS
A secure version of HTTP that encrypts data to protect it during transfer.
FTP
The protocol used for transferring files between computers on a network.
POP
Post Office Protocol, used to retrieve emails from a mail server. Emails are downloaded and removed from the server.
IMAP
Internet Message Access Protocol, used to retrieve emails from a mail server. Emails remain on the server and can be accessed from multiple devices.
SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, used to send emails to a mail server.
DNS
Domain Name System, a protocol that translates domain names (e.g., www.example.com) into IP addresses.
Encryption
The process of scrambling data to protect it from unauthorised access during transmission.
