Line graph
A graph that uses points connected by straight lines to represent data.
Gradient of a line
The steepness of a line, calculated as 'change in y ÷ change in x'.
Y-intercept
The point where a line crosses the y-axis (when x = 0).
Equation of a straight line
y = mx + c, where m is the gradient and c is the y-intercept.
Positive gradient
A line that slopes upwards from left to right.
Negative gradient
A line that slopes downwards from left to right.
Horizontal line
A line with a gradient of 0, represented by the equation y = c.
Vertical line
A line with an undefined gradient, represented by the equation x = c.
Plotting a line graph
Use a table of values to calculate coordinates, then plot the points and join them with a straight line.
Interpreting a line graph
Read values from the graph to identify trends, gradients, and intercepts.
