LAN
A Local Area Network is a network that covers a small geographical area, such as a home, school, or office.
WAN
A Wide Area Network is a network that covers a large geographical area, often connecting multiple LANs.
Transmission Media
The physical or wireless methods used to transfer data, such as Ethernet cables or Wi-Fi.
Router
A device that connects networks together and directs data packets between them.
Switch
A device that connects devices within a LAN and directs data to the correct destination.
NIC
A Network Interface Card is hardware that allows a device to connect to a network.
WAP
A Wireless Access Point is a device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network.
Bandwidth
The amount of data that can be transmitted in a given time, measured in bits per second (bps).
IP Address
A unique identifier for a device on a network, used for routing data packets.
MAC Address
A unique hardware identifier for a device, assigned to the Network Interface Card.
