Cube root definition
The cube root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself three times, gives the original number.
Symbol for cube root
The cube root is represented by the symbol ∛.
Cube root of 8
The cube root of 8 is 2, because 2 × 2 × 2 = 8.
Cube root of 27
The cube root of 27 is 3, because 3 × 3 × 3 = 27.
Cube root of 1
The cube root of 1 is 1, because 1 × 1 × 1 = 1.
Cube root of 0
The cube root of 0 is 0, because 0 × 0 × 0 = 0.
Negative cube roots
The cube root of a negative number is negative. For example, ∛(-8) = -2.
Cube root of 64
The cube root of 64 is 4, because 4 × 4 × 4 = 64.
Cube root of 125
The cube root of 125 is 5, because 5 × 5 × 5 = 125.
Estimating cube roots
To estimate a cube root, find the two perfect cubes it lies between. For example, ∛50 is between ∛27 (3) and ∛64 (4).
