CPU
The central processing unit that executes instructions and processes data.
ALU
The arithmetic logic unit performs arithmetic operations (e.g., addition) and logical operations (e.g., AND, OR, NOT).
CU
The control unit coordinates the activities of the CPU, directing the flow of data and instructions.
Cache
A small, fast memory located close to the CPU that stores frequently used data and instructions.
Registers
Very fast storage locations within the CPU used to temporarily hold data and instructions.
MAR
The memory address register holds the address of the memory location to be accessed.
MDR
The memory data register holds the data that has been read from or is to be written to memory.
Program Counter
A register that holds the address of the next instruction to be executed.
Accumulator
A register that stores intermediate results of calculations performed by the ALU.
Von Neumann Architecture
A design model for a computer where instructions and data share the same memory and are accessed via buses.
