Negative correlation
When one variable increases, the other variable decreases.
No correlation
When there is no relationship between two variables.
Scatter graph
A graph used to display the relationship between two variables and identify correlation.
Line of best fit
A straight line drawn on a scatter graph to show the general direction of the data points.
Strong correlation
When the points on a scatter graph are very close to the line of best fit.
Weak correlation
When the points on a scatter graph are spread out but still show a general trend.
Interpreting correlation
Describing the type and strength of the relationship between two variables based on a scatter graph.
Causation
When a change in one variable directly causes a change in another. Correlation does not imply causation.
