Compound measure
A measure that combines two or more different units, such as speed, density, or pressure.
Speed formula
Speed = Distance ÷ Time.
Units of speed
Common units include metres per second (m/s) and kilometres per hour (km/h).
Density formula
Density = Mass ÷ Volume.
Units of density
Common units include grams per cubic centimetre (g/cm³) and kilograms per cubic metre (kg/m³).
Pressure formula
Pressure = Force ÷ Area.
Units of pressure
Common units include pascals (Pa) and newtons per square metre (N/m²).
Converting speed units
To convert from m/s to km/h, multiply by 3.6. To convert from km/h to m/s, divide by 3.6.
Example of speed calculation
If a car travels 150 km in 3 hours, its speed is 150 ÷ 3 = 50 km/h.
Example of density calculation
If a material has a mass of 200 g and a volume of 50 cm³, its density is 200 ÷ 50 = 4 g/cm³.
