Combined events
Situations where two or more events occur together, and their probabilities are considered.
Mutually exclusive events
Events that cannot happen at the same time. For example, rolling a 3 and a 4 on a single die.
Probability of mutually exclusive events
P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B)
Independent events
Events where the outcome of one event does not affect the outcome of the other.
Probability of independent events
P(A and B) = P(A) × P(B)
Tree diagram
A diagram used to show all possible outcomes of combined events and their probabilities.
Two-way table
A table used to organise and calculate probabilities for combined events.
Venn diagram
A diagram that shows the relationships between different sets of events, including overlaps.
Conditional probability
The probability of an event occurring given that another event has already occurred.
Sum of probabilities
The total probability of all possible outcomes of an event is always 1.
